Unfortunately, many of the children who attend the Ebenezer Baptist School in Fort Liberté do not receive regular meals at home. The lunch they get at school may be the only meal they have that day. If there’s no lunch at school, they simply will not eat.
A lunch of corn or rice and beans costs only about twenty cents per student. There is never a charge for the students but, without help, the school cannot always provide even this simple meal.
For $200, a meal may be provided for the entire Ebenezer School of approximately 1200 students.
This is an ideal project for a small church or even a large Sunday school class. It is evident that on days when lunch is served, the students are more attentive, and the boost in morale is almost as beneficial as the much-needed nutrition. Pastor Andre reports that on the way to class, children will peek into the kitchen area to see if there will be lunch that day. There is joy when they see the cooks at work.
